Website Domain Registration & Hosting
What is hosting
A website is really just one or more computer files that are coded in such a way that your internet browser knows how to display the text and images when it opens the page. In order for someone to type in the website address (URL) and see the site, however, the files need to be placed on a computer that is accessible from the web and without this, the site is useless!
Do you need hosting?
Yes!
Your site requires a connection to various databases in order to function correctly and to allow you to edit it from your control panel. In order to do this, the site must be hosted on our dedicated server.
If you already have a domain, this will need to be transferred. We can usually do this on your behalf if you can supply the control panel details for your design or we can advise the appropriate information.
**Very Important**
After registration or other major change to any domain
type other than '.co.uk' (e.g. .com, .info, .biz), there is a 60 day
period before any other change can be made to it including transfers.
This means, if you register a .com domain and then order a site the
next day, we cannot transfer your domain for 2 months so PLEASE
contact me prior to registering.
As we use Names Co for our hosting, this also does not apply to domains registered with them.
Who will host your site?
Looking after these servers is a full time job in it's own right and best
left to the experts.
I am responsible for a large number of individual sites and I therefore
require a dependable hosting company that can provide the level of
equipment and technical support I require.
I use one of the UK largest
hosting specialists 'Names Co.' My sites are now all hosted on my
own dedicated server that is looked after by their technical team
at their secure server centre so you know your site is in safe
hands.
